Hygrothermix was founded on a simple observation: the objective of an under-slab moisture control system is not to maximize vapor retarder performance—it is to achieve predictable long-term slab moisture results.
That distinction changed everything.
For decades, under-slab moisture protection has largely been driven by prescriptive product specifications such as vapor retarder thickness and permeance. While these properties can be relevant, they are only individual components of a much larger hygrothermal system. Blindly chasing the lowest permeance number without scientific backing is wasteful and costly. The long-term moisture condition of a concrete slab is ultimately governed by the interaction of groundwater, soil characteristics, capillary breaks, thermal conditions, insulation, vapor retarder properties, concrete properties, floor coverings, and building operation.
Hygrothermix was created to engineer that entire system.
Drawing on decades of experience in building science, materials engineering, manufacturing, ASTM standards development, and advanced hygrothermal modeling, we help architects, engineers, owners, and contractors understand how these variables work together to influence slab moisture performance for decades after construction. Rather than relying solely on conservative prescriptive specifications, we use predictive engineering to optimize under-slab assemblies for the unique conditions of each project.
Our engineering led directly to the development of the SlabTECK® family of vapor retarders, tapes, and sealants.
