SlabTECK Vapor Retarder System Installation
Vapor retarder installations are simple. There are FIVE tenants to consider in order to create a quality installation.
-
Create a continuous membrane between your concrete slab and the subbase below.
-
Overlap and tape seams with TECKTape.
-
Seal terminating edges of the vapor retarder to the slab, stemwalls, or footings with TECKSeal/TECK2BND.
-
Boot all penetrations with TECKTape or TECKSeal.
-
Inspect and repair all damaged areas prior to concrete placement.
We have created accessories to make this as easy as possible for installing crews. TECKTape should be used to tape all seams and boot simple penetrations like single pipes and square blockouts. TECKSeal can be utilized at gangs of pipes or other complex penetration scenarios. In all cases, attempt to bring the vapor barrier as close to the penetration as possible before booting with TECKTape and/or TECKSeal. In order to seal the vapor barrier to existing footings or stemwalls, TECK2BND reversible, double-sided tape can be used. Additionally, TECK2BND can be applied to the TECKFilm and concrete placed directly on top to create a seal to the freshly placed concrete. TECKSeal adhesive sealant can also be used to create the seal to concrete. It does not need to be fully cured prior placing the concrete as it will cure with the concrete's moisture.
Engineered for Reliable Installation
Our research and field experience consistently show that a complete and intact installation is the single most important factor in the long-term performance of any slab vapor control system. At the same time, bonding to smooth, low-surface-energy (LSE) membranes such as blown polyethylene vapor retarder films can be challenging—particularly in cold or damp jobsite conditions.
SlabTECK addresses this challenge by designing, formulating, and manufacturing adhesives specifically for LSE's in under-slab environments rather than relying on generic re-labeled tapes. SlabTECK accessories are therefore not simply add-ons—they are engineered as integral components of the system. TECKTape, TECK2BND, and TECKSeal are chemistry-matched to TECKFilm membranes, creating exceptionally strong bonds and ensuring reliable, consistent performance under real-world construction conditions.
This system approach is reinforced by Hygrothermix installation support, including pre-slab meetings, shop drawings, installation reviews, and real-time technical assistance. Together, SlabTECK products and support services help ensure consistent installations and long-term slab moisture protection.
